I have already taken the TOEFL test twice before I started taking classes with Roberta. I needed to achieve a score of 26 at the speaking test in order to advance in my veterinary career, and I was feeling very frustrated I couldn't achieve it in the previous two tests. Roberta was very patient and helped me to identify my weaknesses, and she gave me great advice on how to have stronger answers at the test. After 10 classes with her, my total score at the TOEFL was 111, and I achieved 27 in the speaking test. She is as great teacher, and I would recommend her to anyone that is interested in having a great score at the TOEFL test.

She's very patient answering all my questions and our section went very efficiently. I sincerely recommend Roberta.

Roberta's unique and personalized approach empowers you to put your pen to the paper. As a perfectionist I am often paralyzed by the very thought of writing. After only a few weeks with Roberta, I'm producing better work and beginning to enjoy the process. Writing this very public review is an example of how much more confident I've become.

Not only she helped me improve my skills for taking the test, but also helped me improve my confidence. After only 9 lessons, I was able to get 28/30 in the speaking section of the TOEFL. I definitely recommend Roberta as a tutor.

Roberta is very patient and has been giving me great editing tips. So far, I have learned a handful of useful grammar usage that will definitely improve my writing skills. She is question friendly and I never hesitated to ask her any questions. Moreover, she will correct my pronunciation mistakes, as well as teach me idioms. She is very nice to be with: the class atmosphere has been relaxing, but never without the tension to make you focus.

I started working with Roberta in the spring of 2015. I came in with a general sense of what I wanted to explore. I wanted to learn the basics of journalism. We got right into learning the main principles of both your standard hard news piece and also opinion news pieces. She's excellent at listening to what you want to accomplish and forming a lesson plan to best address those goals. In addition, Roberta is great at expanding on what you're looking to accomplish. One lesson comes to mind in particular. I was given the liberty to choose one topic, but I had to present it both as a hard news piece - object and concise, and then as a political op ed. That exercise is still bearing fruit, as it truly helped me understand the principles and skills that go into writing both. Again, Roberta is great at helping you reach your goals through creative and fun lesson plans. Recently, in the winter of 2016 Roberta and I made a pivot toward creative non-fiction. I wanted to practice descriptive writing. I knew this was important for writing features and an overall essential skill for journalists to have. I came in with a free-write, it was a description of an experience I had at a diner. To Roberta's credit she saw something in this free-write and urged to explore 'creative non-fiction'. A couple months later I find myself with a personal essay - a piece of creative non-fiction that I'm now looking to publish. It took me many hours to write and Roberta's guidance was invaluable. Along with being an excellent and professional grade editor, (a testament to her many years working as a professional journalist), she was able to see the strength of my story and help bring it to life by encouraging me to focus on certain elements and ignoring others. Finally, before I came to Roberta I had a very loose sense of what direction I wanted to head in with my writing. While I'm still trying to figure out how to turn my passion for writing into a career, I'm starting to see a path forward. If it wasn't for my work with Roberta, I would still be lost. I encourage anyone with an interest, or passion for writing to work with Roberta as she is the very best at transforming your interests into a lesson plan that can see those motivations realized in ways you probably didn't know existed. On a side note: Roberta is extremely accessible. Centrally located in Manhattan and responsive via email to any concern you might have. She's a very nice personable-women who has a genuine interest in your work and fulfilling the role as teacher and mentor. I don't have any real negative comments. For a while I was coming from the Jersey Shore so it was tough to get into Manhattan, but I think this has more to do with NJ Transit.
